for some reason this photo of elizabeth smart on her wedding day makes me happy. it's nice to know that someone who went through so much at such a young age can go on and live a happy life. Her and her new husband just look so genuinly happy!

I went to a naturalization ceremony today. It was interesting and melted my heart to see all the people that have taken the steps to become an American citizen. 1,800 of them.

Also it made me so proud of my friend. She moved to Colorado the middle of freshmen year of High School from Venezuela. She didn't know english and had only warm weather clothes as her mother spent all her earnings for herself and two children to come to America. Since then My friend has learned english, you would never know it was her second language. She graduated from college while working three jobs and almost two years ago she was accepted into the Teach for America program. This coming summer she will have attained her maters degree. All of that while studying for her citizenship. If that is not the American dream I do not know what is.

It kind of makes me feel like a slacker, ha!

I love this story! Congrats to her Yes

  • I took Maddie to MDO this morning, opened my car door to get out and looked down and there's a lobster tail just sitting there in the parking lot. It had been cooked and cut down the middle......that's weird, no?

For twins, that's pretty spot-on, though, isn't it?  I was thinking twin pregnancies measure, on average, 10 weeks ahead of singleton pregnancies.

from what I've heard/read it's usually about 6 weeks ahead but 10 weeks isn't unheard of, especially for a second pregnancy.

    I can't believe you're 26 weeks already!  Well, 27 now. I can't wait to meet them.

Lord yes! I have never been able to call DH a nickname with a straight face. Occasionally when we're joking around I'll call him Gar-bear, but I could never bring myself to call him a nickname in public.

Horrible, abusive client, no support from upper management.  I can't sleep, I can't eat and I pretty sure my hair is falling out.

  • Has anyone ever turned down a promotion and still kept their current position with no negative consequences? They expect 60 hour weeks and weekends from management and sales and I can't do that. My anxiety is through the roof knowing I have to talk to my boss about it today. And last Friday we were notified of a seminar this Saturday. I have a race and the fees and room are nonrefundable.

It seems like I read a discussion about this recently on the Working Moms board, you might go over there and ask if anyone has advice.  I'm sorry, that sucks.  I wouldn't want to take it either.  That's the one thing that makes me ok with taking a paycut to stay here-- at least I don't ever have to work late or take work home.

My big boy is bounding towards 3! Hoping to add a sibling. image Hipster dog is not impressed.

Thanks.  I am talking with my line manager this afternoon.  Resume is also polished up.  Add in the guilt that I would be screwing my team if I jumped ship...I would actually feel less guilty leaving the company than just leaving the team.

If you are good at the job you do, and are honest with them about not being able to commit more time, it wouldn't make sense for them to get rid of you.  Just let your boss know that your responsibilities to your family will not allow you to take on more hours, and that you're happy where you are... but you are flattered that they'd consider you for management/sales.

As for the seminar/race conflict, that's up to you. If the seminar is really important, I would eat the race fee and hotel.  If you feel open enough with your boss, mention the amount you'll be forfeiting if you go to the seminar.  A week's notice is pretty doggone short notice.

I hope things get better odear.  That sounds awful.

We had one person on our team go out last week on a mental health break and if the crap that's going on here keeps up I might be next.  It's getting pretty ridiculous.

  • Thanks, everyone.  Kind of weird...I swear recruiters must just stalk LinkedIn for activity.  I updated my LinkedIn profile earlier today and already got a call from a recruiter.  Good thing I updated my resume on Friday!  Could be interesting....it is a 6 month contract position (but is still a salaried position with benefits) that would invole some travel to Australia!  That sounds pretty cool.  She did say that it may be too far along in that process for the client to consider me, but it sounds pretty cool!
