Re: Applebees Hiring Freeze
Some people need help and it's fine to. My problem with Obama is he needs to create more jobs so less people are dependent.
I think vla is being snarky with us, I like it.
no. you ended cats statement with health care will be free. but it's not, it will apparently be more affordable but not free. I was asking for a source that stated it would be free for all american. It was my understanding , its only free for those on poverty level.
Oh.
I agree. Lol, kinda. Well, about the part that there need to be more jobs. Not the problem with Obama part.
Eta: this iPad really really sucks. But hey, at least I was able to edit instead of making 50 more posts. Win.
I guess your sarcasm-dar is on the fritz.
Ah, I see.
nevermind. so you were being sarcastic. I thought you were serious. I can't catch all snark apparently
No. The companies need to create more jobs. Obama doesn't need to create more jobs.
They need to stop outsourcing jobs. They need to stop thinking the dollar is more important than their employees.
Of course, that won't happen.
Capitalism, YAY!
You need help. It's like you enjoy personally attacking me. If it's not me it's someone else. Grow up please.
I don't enjoy personally attacking anyone. This is a message board, you shouldn't take anything anyone says seriously. I could be a robot for all you know.
::calls Sam Waterston to discuss robot insurance::
This is a no, then?
Believe me I don't take anything anyone says here seriously. lol
Well, I do, but I'm guessing I'm not who you were wanting to hear from.
Those companies laid off because of the economy and they weren't as profitable. Some were due to mergers. Some aren't even US based companies.
It's sucky all those companies laid off workers. We all agree on that, I'm sure. It's just a little premature to blame it on healthcare laws.
Companies like Papa Johns. Walmart, etc are always looking for ways to skirt having to provide benefits. This isn't brand new information or strategies. If you make full-time 40 hours, they make sure to only work you 39 hours. They will always have a way to not pay. That's scummy, IMO. Obamacare just gave them someone else to blame.
I already dont shop Walmart, Applebees (gagalicious) and Papa Johns. Politics have nothing to do with it, however.
Oh it'll be so sad if two crappy restaurant chains go out of business and people have to support their local restaurants when they go out to eat instead.
My hometown is a tourist area. About 75% of the jobs are restaurant, hotel or outlets mall/retail. The practice of not making people full time to avoid benefits is not new. This has been commonplace for a long time.
To me, this is a major problem and why so many are working poor and un/under-insured. And why we need to make insurance more afforadable and available to them.
Should have taken those post that Obama was going to win seriously and that the polling was correct.
Perhaps you should? Considering, many of us were correct about the election and the political leanings of the majority of Americans and you were woefully off base.
It's weird that you keep coming back here when you don't seem to know much about politics. Do you get some kind of sick pleasure out of being proven wrong over and over again?
You really don't care if you're getting your information and forming your opinions based on biased and inaccurate sources?
I never stated Romney was a definite win. In fact, I agreed in that it is best to take into account all polling averages not just ones in favor of Republicans, i.e. Rasmussen. I was hopeful of a Romney win which obvs. didn't happen.
Right, but you get SO upset when people disagree with you. As if you know what's what, but the rest of us have no idea. If people on this board disagree with you, which tends to happen often, you imply they are bullies.
When you say you don't take anything anyone says seriously, it raises questions as to why you are even participating? You obviously disagree with most of the posters, hence you being the bullied one, and you don't take the things anyone here says seriously, so what are you hoping to gain from this discourse?
I don't take the rude, personal attacks seriously is what I meant. That response was referrencing a personal attack on this thread that I have "other issues" You guys start personal sh#t in almsot every thread! I don't consider someone who simply disagrees with me a bully.
$10 says the former PCErs who are lurking on this ribbon are alternately ::facepalm::-ing and thanking their lucky starts they found proboards.
As much as you want to think you're being bullied, cats, you aren't. Personal attacks happen because we try logic and reason and you come back with youtube videos and Chicken Little-style "the sky is falling!"
It makes anything you say difficult to take seriously.
This, exactly! So Iberia is laying off workers ... Hasn't anyone here been following the debt crisis in Spain (not to mention the rest of Europe?) Wouldn't that be a more logical explanation for what's going on in the market than health insurance provisions that don't even go into effect for another 14 months?
This is a complex, global economic crisis that incidentally had its roots planted during the Bush administration, when the markets were artificially inflated thanks to Wall Street greed run amok (and worse, preying on the fabric of our housing market.) Lehman Brothers and Bear Stearns both collapsed well before Obama was elected, before he was even officially nominated. Obama's stimulus package stopped the bleeding. Its success in Ohio even helped him get re-elected there.
Large corporations and insurers have been passing the buck for too long, expecting millions of uninsured workers to be treated for free in emergency rooms across the country. Have you looked at hospital stocks over the past week? They're cheering this news! It's time we stop rewarding companies with tax-breaks while they over-burden our nation's healthcare system. People will inevitably get sick. And if we don't pay on the front-end, we'll pay on the back-end.
Cats, question: did the article you read imply that the list of job losses was due to Obamacare? I don't disagree on the numbers, but I hope they didn't cite the ACA as the reason.
I know for Bank of America at least, the 30,000 layoff has long been in the works and it wouldn't surprise me if more companies were like that.

Also, in terms of Papa John's, the CEO really is a jerk. He threatened to raise pizza costs by 15 cents because of Obamacare. Looks like he's taking the more damaging route of limiting hours out of spite. Here's an article from August that shows him thinking about this:
"Our best estimate is that the Obamacare will cost 11 to 14 cents per pizza, or 15 to 20 cents per order from a corporate basis," Schnatter said."
http://www.slate.com/blogs/moneybox/2012/08/07/papa_john_s_founder_warns_that_obamacare_will_lead_to_imperceptably_small_increase_in_pizza_prices.html
This shows the complete lack of logical reasoning on the typical liberals part.
Free health care??? Do you really think anything is free?
Someone is going to pay for that health care. Maybe you liberals are all just takers, but a whole lot of people are going to be paying dearly for your "free healthcare".
Really can't agrue with this kind of reasoning. Some day you takers will run out of the givers you are using.
