GTKY: What do you do for work?

2»

Re: GTKY: What do you do for work?

  • I'm the Assistant General Manager at a restaurant. In charge of running operations, ordering and invoicing, inventory, etc. Also, I babysit and do the GM's job for them because the last 3 we've had were under qualified. That's why we've had 3 in two years. ;)

After the first of the year I will either interview for GM or find a new career path. Whichever route God or the universe places me on.

  • I'm an Implementation Specialist at an online literacy company. I review how schools are using the program and work with them to use it better. It's not my favorite thing, but I work from home 3 days a week, so that helps.

@Sewilson33, I feel your pain! I SHOULD be teaching too. Got my masters and graduated in 2009, I lucked out with a job my first year then got RIF-ed. The second school shut down, now I'm chained to a desk. Not my ideal job, but it pays the bills for now. I hope you can find something soon...

  • I am an operations specialist for child nutrition services for a large school district. I process free and reduced meal benefit forms and handle our point of sale systems. I handle reimbursement information for our federal reports as well.  I also make sure that all 31 of our kitchens are running functionally and properly and that all the lunch ladies dont kill each other in the 3 hour shifts. That is the hard part.

I also over see our summer program where we serve free breakfast and lunch to any student under the age of 18 at different sites around our district Monday through Thursdays all summer.

  • @ljraff29 same exact year for me!! It's been so hard getting back into education especially now that I am consider inexperienced.

  • @fallbride I manage special projects at a cancer center, so I work with a lot of oncology nurses. Kudos to you ladies, it's tough working with cancer patients on a daily basis, and there are so many policies and regulations that have to be followed, far more than the average nursing position. It's definitely rewarding to watch so many people beat their cancers though. It's just hard to lose those that you become close with. Definitely a bittersweet job.

  • Everybody's jobs/careers sound so interesting!

I am a lab tech for Syngenta. Basically I germinate soybeans and record how they have grown in a weeks amount of time.

I will do this until Dec. 31 because they are closing out lab down. :( Hopefully I will find something I like soon! I would like to find something right this minute, but my boss is amazing, and it is hard to teach what we do in such a short amount of time.

  • I'm a full-time grad student in conservation of objects, and as part of that I work full-time at a large museum in the UK. I spend a lot of time preparing for exhibitions in various ways, including doing condition checks, making sure objects are stable and okay to be displayed, as well as stabilizing or repairing objects that aren't yet ready. I love what I do, though there is more paperwork than you would expect (or than I did, to begin with).

  • I'm a mathematics grad student. In other words, I teach a freshman calculus course, sometimes go to lectures and seminars, and think about problems that make me feel stupid all day for very little money.

I also tutor here and there and work as a part-time nanny for a wonderful 22-month-old girl.

  • I'm an ad sales traffic person for a cable television network by day, and a traveling dj by night. My day job pays the bills, and I work for a good company - the 2nd job is more for fun and for free travel. If I make extra money along the way, it's a bonus. Just found out yesterday that I have a booking request to play in London next year, so definitely looking forward to that.
  • I am an HR Specialist. I work for a large state agency doing benefits administration (though I have done lots of different HR). Believe it or not, this is my "dream job" I had been looking to get into this state agency since I graduated with my BA. Only took me about 8 years!

  • I am a very very part time student (one class a semester, Web Development)
I also work very very part time as a library clerk - I shelve books/media, assist patrons looking for items and with checking them out, and process holds.

Between those very part time things, I spend a lot of my time thinking about what I should do with my life.  Part of the reason I was continuing to study Web Development was for I job I no longer have, and I've been thinking of switching to an accounting / bookkeeping degree.
