Re: 2011 Predictions

  • imageCaliopeSpidrman:
Finally?  Am I supposed to be pissed off at you all the time or something?
I assume that I piss you off a lot since you are way on the nice side of the board and I'm on the not play nice side.
    image
  • You play nice just as much as I do, just sometimes it's with different people.  I don't know if I deserve the label of being nice since I have a tendency to say stuff I probably should have just kept to myself.  And sometimes I'm afeared I tease people too hard. Right now it just seems like you're pulling a mulva and trying to prove what a big meaniepants you are, and you just don't wear it well.

Just talk about how you don't recycle if you want to piss people off.  That always works.

  • I'm generally on the play nice side of things and you don't piss me off too often, Fallin.
  • I'm having a baby in 2011, my husband would REALLY have to fuckup for me to leave with a 2 year old and a newborn.

I'd prefer Fenton's drunk one-nighter to result on her waving the new bastard baby in Twan's face a la Micheal Jackson.   I also predict her new place will have a balcony.

I don't see Christin pregnant this year, I see her being a fantastic wing-woman, though (not really a prediction, you're doing great it seems so far)

people will come to Ontario.   In November so I can drink with them.

  • Honestly I'm not trying to play mean in this post. I just think people who have predicted divorce to internet friends getting squeamish about jokes about divorce or predictions of the kind that have been made for years is a little silly. I think fenton and i are pretty similar personalities on the nest and in Fenton's place, I'd find it a little embarrassing that people were changing posts and trying to be so "nice" especially after she's said she doesn't mind jokes.
    image
  • In the case of something like divorce i want a green light shone directly into my eyeballs before joking about it.   I'd feel the same way if Fenton also got the chlamydia during her drunken night of implantation.  No jokes about applause for a job well done until she actually says it's okay to joke about the clap.
    image
  • But it's not about Fenton.  What aliza said was shiitty, in my opinion.  Yeah Fenton would be okay with it, but I'm not.  And Buddha's post title seemed pretty unintentionally crass because we have had *4* people in various stages of marital strife in the past couple weeks.  It's not just about Fenton or some misguided intention to "protect" her.  Showing a bit of sensitivity about a situation while people are in the throes of it is a good thing.

Aliza's comment just reminded me of the scene in Arrested Development when the siblings are sitting around talking about what a manipulative person Lucille is, and Buster breaks out in a super-bleeped commentary that leaves them all going, "WTF?"  It was just too much.

Lastly, I didn't realize Buddha had an issue with changing the post title.  I merely suggested it.  If she thought it was misguided, she should have told me to stuff it instead of complaining about it to other people.

  • Buddha didn't complain to me. I have no idea if she felt it was misguided. I did. At least 2 of the 4 are by nature crass and revel in insensivity. But we can just disagree. I won't be around to make many divorce jokes for the holidays anyway.
    image
  • I guess I don't get what's to be super worked up about either.  I mean, it wasn't particularly funny or full of tact, but that's usually socially acceptable around here.

Fenton said before and since that it was ok to joke about, and the joke really didn't apply to any of the other folks going through rough times.  Lot's of people deal with difficult topics through humor.

    image
  • I'm slow.  I didn't even notice the changed post title until now.  That does seem a little ML-esque to me.

There were some divorce allusions and jokes before and after Aliza's that didn't get called out.  Was Aliza's crime mentioning divorce, or just not being particularly funny?

    image
  • Okay, here was my issue with it. It seemed way more specific than the other ones. I don't think Fenton needs to be babied or coddled or treated with kid gloves, but given the detail she's shared here about how she's been feeling, it made me cringe. I expressed it. It made Bethie cringe, she expressed it. Ditto for Cali. Ditto for Noisy. No one called Aliza a biitch (not that I am now, just wanted to make that clear) or really even called her out. It was a reaction. And holy OVERreaction to that reaction.

Honestly, I'd take 100 Aliza jokes over this endless rehash and drilling everything down and dissecting every fvcking detail. That is making me cringe a whole lot more.

  • Well Cali called Aliza stupid essentially. I'm unclear to which overreaction you refer. Winged and I expressing a differing reaction to Aliza or Bethie's all caps flip out and Cali telling me to shut the effect up? Can you clarify?

Here's how it went down as I saw it. Bethie, Noisy, and I responded. I thought rather calmly. I believe there was some eye-rolling and some "This"ing. Then, Winged came with with "what the foff is going on?" I thought it was rather clear what was going on. Then we all had a grand ol' horse beating party. Then Cali called Aliza stupid. Then you did your emotionless robot "DOES NOT COMPUTE" dance for a bit, refusing to acknowledge why anyone could POSSIBLY have been a little put off by the comment. Which drove Bethie to bang her head on the desk because honestly, a lot of the time, you just come off as deliberately obtuse. Then we beat the dead horse some more. Then Cali had enough dead horse beating and told you stfu. And then we beat the dead horse some more. And here we are!

    Clarified?

  • I never indicated that I could not understand why someone might be upset. I get it. I'm very smart. Can you understand that other people may not have found it out of bounds and expressed that? That's not a hard concept either, right? But if you want to talk obtuse saying your side was the calm one falls into that category. I don't know if it is deliberate.
    image
  • Can I just declare my love for Jens.  That video is AMAZING.  I may or may not have recorded it and watched it daily.
  • Did you see how I did that chronologically? In the initial reactions I was calm, Bethie was calm, Noisy was calm. Is it easier to understand broken out like that? I'm sorry I didn't close the "calm" tag after that. I can see how that might have been confusing. You're right, later on, Bethie and Cali both flipped the fvck out. I'm guessing as a direct result of your robot mode.

Now let's talk about Winged's "what the foff is going on here?" That implies an inability to understand why people reacted the way they did. Can you understand where it started to break down?

  • No one flipped out in reaction to winged as far as I recall. I don't really get what other reaction I'm supposed to have. Scold everyone who makes a divorce joke? Fenton says she's fine with it. I take her at her word. If that, and an ability to argue my position without flipping out, makes me a robot I'm OK with that. I do enjoy you being condescending to me. Fun times.
    image
  • I find it easier to converse in your native robot tongue.

  • Oh jaysus, this is still going on?  And people are still missing the point entirely?  Awesome.

  • And think of how much fun it will be to re-read it this time next year!

  • I was the first one to make a joke about going and getting knocked up, and none of this bothered me in the least, but I do appreciate that some of you are all "ride or die" to defend my honor.  Awwww!  xoxo

ETA: what post was edited?  I have to say, the things that happen in my life are probably going to affect me a hell of a lot more than a bluntly worded post about those life events on this board.  I can't imagine there's anything anyone could say about it that would actually hurt me.  Although, when in doubt, just post, "Too soon?" on a line after the joke, and that usually buys you a get out of jail free card.

  • Fent, it was Buddha's post about one of her SS gifts from me. She was saying she would be in trouble from Zane because she would be watching Newsies so much. The original title of the thread was "Jens got me a divorce for Christmas. And then people got upset and she apparently changed it? I don't know, I was busy reveling in the AWness that she liked my gift, so I didn't even realize the title had upset anyone or had been changed until I read about it in this thread.

Bobloblaw always makes shitt awkward. Stop ruining it for the lurkers.

I'm guessing my all-caps freakout added another 20+ posts to this thread, so I don't know why you're not *thanking* me, dipshit. You're welcome! :D

I agree. If anything, them saying it made them uncomfy caused more entertainment. Also, I don't care if Cali thinks I am stupid or says it but I find it perfect proof that we all have different lines.

Although now just because I am a busy body I do want more. The only things I really know is Fenton is going through this and Sam and Groomz are knocked up.  So who else is doing what?

  • I am sorry for joking that Sebastian would divorce me for not calling the doctor about a hemorrhoid, even though for an unspecified amount of time the morning has been greeting me with, "hello fitty! Tiiiiiime for your daily ass tearing! Come on in! It's gonna be great!" I predict I will call the doctor before 2011.
    image Guess who?
  • I predict that in 2011, my love for Fallin, Winged, and Sam will continue to grow.
  • I didn't know anything about post title's changing and whatnot, that's completely seperate from the question of when is it okay to joke about someone specifically and their divorce.   Changing post titles for that is stupid, and to me, akin to never making your mom jokes again because people on here have lost their mother's.

Come on people, let's be sisters, not freakshows.

    image
  • Your mom is a freak show.
  • your divorced mom is a freak show. too soon?
