CRC - can't you use other forms of bc?  I didn't like being on the pill so we use Natural Family planning, but there are many other options as well.

What is that? I have never heard of it....

I only thought my options were: pills, shots, condoms, etc....the obvious stuff

There is also that "T" thing they stick in you.  Is it called the IUD?  Hormone free.

Yes, it's an IUD, but they do have horomones in them, unless you specifically request that it doesn't.  I have the Mirena and it has hormones. Lots of hormones.

Correct me if I am wrong...but I thought you could only have this done if you have already had at least one child?? Also, I have "heard" (not a reliable source, just through the grapevine) that a guy can "feel" an IUD!

No, you can get an IUD without having any children. It's just recommended more so, once you've had one.  There's nothing that says that you can't get one without having a child.  And it's actually the most effective BC that I've found (mind you, I got PG on the pill).

The feeling.. yes.  At first, and very little.  The strings of the "T" soften after a month or so and then there's no feeling.  In fact, I'd be willing to say that not many guys feel it ever.

Did I mention that I have no period?  That's yet another reason why the IUD is awesome.

  • imageCRCruisin:

I've heard the same thing and thought about including that in my other post but didn't!  You aren't the only one.

Thank goodness!! I thought you guys would probably think I was crazy! hahaha

I know for a fact you can have an IUD even if you have never had a kid. It is more painful when they put it in than if you had had children, but it can definitely be done. My sister was 17 when she had hers put in and had had no children previously.

As for whether the guy can feel it, she has never mentioned it?

Really.  Aside from you, everyone who has the IUD and praises it it has always emphasized it's hormone free, which is why it's so much better than everything else out there.  Shows how much I know.

Oh, I praise it... don't get me wrong.  But it does have side effect, just like any BC.

The difference in the IUDs are a "copper containing IUD" and a "hormone containing IUD".  Most people have the Mirena because it's the most popular and it is a hormone containing IUD.

Obviously, some people don't do well with the hormones, so their doctors will place them on the copper containing one - which will allow you still have a period as well.

It's all about preference.  The Mirena has given me very few side effects and it's worked very well for us.  I've had it for 4 years.

Here's a Wikipedia about the differences in the two, if it helps you:

Lacey:  Sorry about your hot water heater!  Nothings worse than a cold shower!

Re BC pills:  I miss being on it.  I was on Yaz to help with my PMDD and now my periods are back to being excruciating.

I'm glad this TMI is online, because I wouldn't be able to look any of you in the eyes because I'd be too embarassed right now.

    Embarrassed

I think you would surprise yourself.

We talked about stuff at the book club g2g that I never thought would leave my mouth in a million years.

I must have been thinking about the copper one.

I don't doubt you at all, if it's not something that directly affects me, I usually will believe it because I'm smart like that Stick out tongue

  • Lacey,

Did it burst or just break?  Mine burst all over my apartment in 2005 and it took almost an hour for maintenance to show up.  I was in tears and made myself sick.  Hopefully yours will get fixed soon.

My eyes are still glazed over.....

Sadly I am not sure.  There was water all in the laundry room.  Water went under the tile and the carpet was soaking wet.  Water all in the garage.  Apparently the valve you turn to turn off the water to the hot water take was corroded, so we had to turn off the water to the entire house.  The pipe that is supposed to drain overfill to the yard outside was clogged, so it spilled out into the house.  So, not just cold water - no water at all.  I just heard from the property manager and it will be Saturday before a plumber can come out.  Saturday.  That's two more days of hotels.

Um, I LOVE Wing Stop.  The lemon pepper ones are my favorite, and their fries are delicious.

As for BC, we use the Billings method, but there are others.  I think it has come a long way from the calendar method, and just counting days. But you do have to stay on top of it and know your cycle.  However, if there is ever a question about being fertile, we use other forms of protection.  :)

So I was heating up a bag of popcorn for lunch (healthy, I know), and noticed there was a candy dispenser full of M&M's.  Which made me think of the weird food combination's discussion.  So I grabbed a handfull, and they do taste delicious together!  I can totally see how peanut m&m's would be even better.

Thanks to whoever said that!  Stick out tongue

So, I'm catching up on all the posts, and I can't stop laughing at this.  Too funny!

Also, I switched to natural family planning because of the side effects of the pill.  After being on it for 10 years, I've been off for 4 months, and I'm pretty glad I did it.  I struggled with acne at first, but it's finally clearing up, and I'm pumped about that.

Before I went on the pill at 21, I had a fairly average blood pressure and migraines very rarely.  Within a year, my bp was up 20 points and I was having migraines during the second week of the pack.  The whole week.  A year later, I had to be on migraine medicine and bp medicine.  Now, all these years later, the only thing it did for me was give me a regular cycle (which I am thankful for) but my body still hasn't been able to adjust back to a lower bp.
