This is hilarious. I had a Honeymoon Registry - along with a traditional one. Everyone who knows DH & me, knows that we love to travel. So it seemed fitting. I don't know a single person who was "offended" by our HM registry.

A vast majority of our guests gifted us with part of our honeymoon. They actually loved it - we sent them a thank you note with a cute photo of whatever their gift was (Dinner on the beach, etc).

We got a lot of positive feedback on it, and I don't think anyone thought it was tacky or just a blatant way to "ask for money". If you're going that way, then it's equally tacky to add gift cards to your registry - same general idea. It's money that's intended for one thing but could easily be used for something quite different.

Of course, these same people would probably be horrified that I had people RSVP via our website or phone. Again, not a single problem there either.

Okay...now a question.  Did anyone or do you know anyone that went to see T. Swift last Saturday?  If so, I have some more detailed questions for you!!!

My friend took her cousin to the concert.  I have limited information, but I talk to her via IM, so I'm sure I can find the answers to your questions. :)

  • I also don't see a problem with a HM registry, as long as that's not the only option.  I didn't have one, but I wouldn't mind if someone did, and would probably choose that over a registry gift if given the option as a guest.

Oh awesome!  I am going to the concert in OKC this weekend.  We understand we will be the oldest people there without kids and we really only want to see T. Swift.  Can you ask her approximately what time she took the stage?  Also, our other friends are dropping us off and picking us up from the concert (that's right...at 31, I will be in the "kiss and go" line!), can you ask her how long the show lasted...like what time did they head out?

  • imagebsn1752:

Oh geez. Again?  I will never understand why people get so worked up about this subject.

I think it's tacky if no other gift options are given, personally, but I don't get all holier than thou about it.   This girl had several other options for guests to choose from.  Whats the BFD?

  • imagebsn1752:

JEEZ...they are exhausting.  I don't know how you do it Brianna!

She said TS came on at 8:45 and the show ended right at 11:00.  She said the show started at 7, but there were 3 nobody acts and TS came on at 8:45.  HTH. :)

  • Lacey & Lacy - Thanks for the information.  I guess I'll be going to the store early Friday morning.  Big Smile

Sara - I know right. Thanks so much. I am feeling much better each day.

I concur. I think it's tacky IF that's the only option. but i dont see it tacky being an option....

My SA...I went and saw an ENT this morning. I went practically completely deaf the first day of our honeymoon after a 100+ft dive. The left ear cleared up but the right has been silent. FINALLY! I can hear :)....bad thing about that is i've been so used to it being quiet that i'm now getting a headache :/

Sorry if this turns out to be a double post. :)

Amanda, DH is going to be in line after work on Thursday. He's staying the night outside the mall, and then will wait in line again when they open the mall at 5am. It's going to be a long line. Just as a heads up :)

i do believe over 1 million people pre-ordered though :) so maybe not many will be in line...lol. one can hope

  • Sara - Welcome back!

Sarah - if you want to do spaces do < p > without the spaces between the p and the < >.

Marie - Good luck! And just a tip - the Home Depot in Lake Worth is usually slightly cheaper on flooring than the others. For example - the tile we bought was $0.49/sq ft at Home Depot Lake Worth and $0.79/sq ft at the 35/Basswood store.

Chelsea - Yay for mental health day! Dana - Woo hoo for Caroline.

So I was in a good mood this morning because I got an A+ on a paper. I called DH for my normal post-school/pre-work chat and that changed. This is long, so backstory:

My BIL works for DH's company as a field person. Lately he has been working directly for DH and has been causing DH problems with telling him he is doing things without actually doing them 100%. Yesterday DH got a call from a store owner that he was upset with the quality of the work BIL did. BIL was supposed to send pics to DH, then head home - instead he just headed home and told DH "he didn't see his call" during his 12 hour drive home.

I called DH this morning and found out his boss railed on him about the problems BIL created and how much money it is going to cost to fix. DH now gets to leave and go to AR for the next four days. I will be alone on my 1st anniversary because my BIL can't be an adult. I know it's petty but I am pretty upset.

  • I really think it's funny.  I love how the one poster said "you don't want to look back on your wedding and have a lot of regrets"... so if I have a HM registry, I will have regrets from my wedding?  A lot of them, at that?

Like I said in my posts there - I didn't have one, but I don't see a OMGBIGGESTDEALEVER issue with them.  You don't like it?  Don't do it.  Say your piece and move the on.

I also love the poster that said she was "troubled that the mod was running around saying HM registeries are just fine."  I didn't know that I was the end all, be all as the mod.  Well, now I know.

Oh my gosh!!  What is going to happen with BIL? Shouldn't he be let go for causing this mess?  I know that is probably a touchy subject.

It's really not petty at all to be upset, especially when this was completely avoidable by your BIL of all people!!

Leslie-  Thank you! The joys of DH's with construction type jobs, right?  What a complete bummer.

Seriously. What is this world coming to if the mod doesn't rail against HM registries?!?!?! Disastrous.

That's what I found so amusing -- was the dramatic reaction some of them had to it. One of them responded with something along the lines of "I was just trying to save her from making a horrible decision and offending guests".

Gah. I give you serious props for your restrained (& non-tacky/rude) responses.

Haha, thanks.  I take it with a grain of salt and try to come up with a legitimate rebuttal to their "it's tacky" response... and when I post one from the Post Foundation (with they ALL use all of the time to prove their points), now that's invalid because it has ties to the wedding industry.

Oh well.  I'm going to go run around some more and talk about how much I love HM registries.  Oh and head tables... that was a fun debate.

DH's company is weird. DH fired one person and another PM hired him back and he is working for the company again. When DH mentioned that to his boss, his boss told him he was making excuses. Ironically, DH's first instinct after receiving the call from the owner yesterday was to fire BIL but he was instead was told to formally write him up, which he did.

This is the same BIL who is dating my cousin and tells my IL's all of things my cousin decides she wants to make up, so we weren't on good terms before and now we sure aren't. He is the same BIL for whom my cousin broke her engagment at my wedding - it's like they just can't let me have a special day without ruining it.

Unfortunately due to the nature of the work he will be doing manual labor (fun!!) and working overnights/early mornings. I would just be in the way.

  • Well we all know I had a HM registry and I don't regret it one bit.  I'd do it again in a heartbeat.

I think they are fine in certain situations like ours:  we were older, had everything, and paid for the entire HM up front.  And we had a regular registry also.

Now if you're 22 and don't have a pot to pi** in, and just want a free trip to Hawaii, well then, maybe I can see the argument.

  • Thanks Leslie!  I'm sorry about your anniversary :-(

I don't think that it's petty at all.  I would be pretty upset too.  This BIL sounds....awesome.

    Amanda,

My advice to you is to either order it now (and see if you can pick it up in two days) or get in line a bit earlier than you originally planned.  I waited a month after the iPad2 came out and thought I could walk in and walk out with two (one for each) but nope.  We still had to wait three-four weeks before they came from China.  Welcome to iPhone ownership though!!!

I don't understand at all:  you call me five times over two days and only leave one message?  I don't know who you are.  I don't recognize your number and then you leave a message saying you're looking for someone else.  ???????

YES!!! We're still debating whether we'll have a Halloween party (I don't think we know enough people quite yet for a bonified party), but I am definitely dressing up for trick-or-treaters.

Probably will just recycle a costume from another year. My all-time fave was our trailer trash costume, so either that or Superhero Family. :0)

I'm just going to throw this out there.... if you haven't sent out word that you are having a party, it is probably to late.  I've already been invited to 4 parties.  It seems everyone wants to have a Halloween party.

Leslie - I don't think you are being petty, and after pointing out that it is the same BIL that is dating your cousin, um yeah.  I remember all that drama too.  You have every right to be upset.  Too bad it wouldn't work out to visit him this weekend.  :(
