From what I understand recent grads are suing schools for fraud basically- falsification of employment stats and things of that nature. I understand the frustration but I don't think it's the school's responsibility to find me a job.

True.  But the school also shouldn't be providing misleading information to prospective students about the job market.  There's a problem if schools are padding their employment stats in order to convince as many students as possible to attend law school because there's a robust job market, and then those student graduate and find that the reality is that there is a dearth of jobs for new grads across the country.

  • Apologies to Henry, but the pop rocks story is hilarious.
  • You guys, I'm crying at work.  Again.  Embarrassed

I just talked to my uncle.  My other uncle had testing done on Saturday to check the cancer, and they got the results back today.  The tumors are shrinking!  I am so relieved.  This is amazing news.  Party!!!Big SmileParty!!!

I agree with Kasa.  I don't think the school is responsible for handing me a job at all, but they should at the very least make their best effort to provide accurate information available to prospective students.  It sounds like many schools not only fail to publish information that is straightforward, but continue to make efforts to hide the truth when directly asked.  That is not cool.

Also, in my experience visiting schools (I visited two schools other than the one I chose), there were varying levels of proactive disclosure about the curve and scholarship retention.  I know this is another area where a lot of students are disgruntled--there was a NY Times article last summer on this topic.

Naughty mom!  I have the luxury of my 2 year old not knowing that when I am laughing, that it's at him.   Devil

  • Thank you everyone!  Happy tears are good indeed.  :)
  • Great news Molly!

Kasa/DP: Didn't mean to post and run. I agree with you both. But does that reach the level of having a claim? I'm not saying it's right, but what company doesn't fluff their numbers?

Sometimes you have to investigate for yourself. Can you imagine if we took everything at face value? I don't know how this will come out. I guess we'll see.

    Anniversary
  • BnG, what else are unemployed, newly minted lawyers supposed to do?  I doubt I would bring a claim, but I don't have all of the facts of these particular scenarios.

I also think the issues go beyond just misrepresenting employment numbers.  I ran across some of this stuff when I was trying to decide where and whether to attend.
