Bump C&P: filing bankruptcy over speeding tickets
Re: Bump C&P: filing bankruptcy over speeding tickets
What the what? They're living in some kind of la la land. I really hope she wises up and realizes how much of a turd her DH is.
DD #1 passed away in January 2011 at 14 days old due to congenital heart disease
DD#2 lost in January 2012 at 23 weeks due to anhydramnios caused by a placental abruption
No, she came back!
the state would not release it to any one. it is "evidence in a crime"- so its sitting in some impound lot some where rusting.
Lol, my neighber pulls that kind of thing. "Oh, yeah, they accidentally shut off my electricity because I forgot to pay the bill." They send you multiple notices before they shut it off, liar.
Also, I haven't read it, but... I would rather sell the living room set (or give it back to Rent-A-Center) and sit on the floor than declare bankruptcy.
ETA: I know many males in their mid-20s who are somehow capable of not "showing off" their sweet ride. Especially the married ones with children.
My husband (though not in his 20s) ususally rides his sweet bicycle to work. This guy might want to take a cue.
Also, since it looks like he has to travel to/from/for work, he might lose his job because of this.

But they have a child together, which is actually worse, IMO.

That's what I was thinking.
Let's be serious here. We are dealing with someone who chose to have a baby with someone who committed a felony. I do not think she gives twoshits about things like "destroyed credit."
The problem is not the bankruptcy plans or even that they live beyond their means. The problem is that she does not have even a basic understanding of what her problems actually are.
Can you imagine if your husband was charged with a felony, and your biggest concern is losing your living room set?
It's so bizarre.
Well praise jesus for that. I feel like we should start up a collection fund for that loser's vasectomy.
There she referred to him as SO. I wonder if they are married. I can see her not understanding that two single people can't collectively file BK together.
I also read her bio. The SO/DH has two other sons that live in Maine. Do we think he pays child support? I'm going to go with no.
I'd like to see them try to declare bankruptcy if his wages were being garnished for child support.
Three children by age 25 and he gets pulled over for driving like an a$$ three times and loses his license and has a felony conviction... WINNER!

Highly likely for someone who had no qualms about driving on a suspended license and continuing to show off his sweet ride, no less. You know, b/c all normal 25 y/o men do that.
At 25, H bought a new sweet ride...it was a station wagon. Of course, he makes me call it a "sports wagon" but its a station wagon.
Where the fluck are people's priorities?
I'm 40+ with two little kids, and a H with a good job. We have one car because that's what we can afford right now. Our sofa is from Craigslist. Our "living room set" is a collection of stuff, bought secondhand, fished from wherever, etc... because that's what we can afford.
It amazes me. This woman, and her SO, have such a sense of entitlement. She's entitled to the new living room set, even though they can't afford it. This guy is entitled to drive his "sweet ride" like an azz and risk the lives of other people. He's also entitled to walk out on his other kids. And walk away from money owed on his sweet ride.
This, my friends, is what "special snowflake" helecopter parenting gets you in the end. I weep for the next generation, I really do.
I am the 99%.
This is every episode of Parking Wars where someone gets booted.
God, PARKING WARS! I love that!
...it was on overnight when I was in the hospital with the boy... I was up nursing him all night, watching Parking Wars... it was surreal and wicked fun.

I really like my living room set. The couch and loveseat are an ugly white floral, but they are covered with sage green slipcovers and have sage/deep red and gold accented throw pillows. That, plus 2 glass top end tables and a glass top coffee table were $300 from craigslist. I've had them for 5 years now. I ended up getting a few new pillows and a matching afghan from Pottery Barn when I won a $100 GC at my company Christmas party one year.
And trust me, I am not the thriftiest person. But I think I got a pretty good deal on those furnishings.
Oh! My other sweet deal was my huge, custom-built desk. The original buyer fell through, and I got it for like 70% off the original price.
Number of things I WANT right now: a new computer, a new iPod (the battery died in mine), a new car for H, children, to own a home.
Number of those things we can actually afford: 0

YOU GUYS!!!!!
when he lost the truck he got stopped because of a headlight out, i know that he broke the law but he had to travel for work. at least he was trying to support us, i don't expect you to understand if you aren't in our situation. i am not complaining about losing the truck, and i am not trying to get pity for having to file. we have exhausted all other options and i did not type out the whole entire story with every thing that has been going on. this is just what put us over the limit.
YOU DON'T KNOW HER!!!!ELEVENTY!
I agree. I don't think this is an entitlement complex at all. I think even entitled people can understand that felonies are scarier than losing a living room set. Felonies mean prison. There are no living room sets in prison.
I'm still with entitlement here.
Their situation is different. He needs a new SUV. She needs a living room set. The police / Rent-A-Center / his exes and babymommies just don't understand them. He shouldn't have to go to jail, and they should be allowed to discharge all this in bankruptcy because they're so speshul.
I am the 99%.
clicky
I've been thinking that, but didn't want to say it lest I offended people.
I agree.
Paying on a $500 living room set for a year makes me so sad. I can just picture the sleazy store, which is probably some regional chain that's got about 6 stores scattered around Appalachia or something, and exists to offer long term, high interest loans on basic household purchases.
It's the type of thing that cropped up after legislators started cracking down on shady rent-to-own operations...just a notch above Rent-a-Center but barely.
You can just picture this poor girl going in, all excited about setting up her new home, with just no basic grasp of things like interest rates. She probably still owes about $450 on that damn living room set.
I want the CFPB to wipe America clean of that predatory crap.
This probably sounds horrible, but I don't know how people divorce the idea of having children from their financial realities. You can't save a few hundred dollars to furnish your living room and you think TTCing is a good idea? (And in another thread, she did mention that they tried for the baby, getting pregnant wasn't a surprise. She was on BCPs before and went off them intentionally.)
I just can't imagine discussing having children and not budgeting for it. Or realizing you are emotionally ready for kids but just never considering the financial implications.
Unfortunately for me, my dad's girlfriend's kids are like the OP. I say unfortunately, because there's a lot of pressure for me and H to have kids immediately, with our fancy college educations and full time jobs and all.

These people bought $500 worth of furniture last year and are paying on it. Still. They don't sound like the kind of folks who are financially savvy, these sound like folks who get by and those kind of people don't wait to have kids or plan ahead for emergencies or big purchases.
