I don't have a shampoo rec, but my neighbor started incorporating fish oil in her dog's diet and it really seemed to help.

Definitely take some Advil before hand, that will help. If you're really afraid of the pain, you could find out if your salon has any sort of numbing gel - the place I go to does, you apply 15-30 minutes before hand and it does help take some of the sting out of it.
