I asked rrr to do ONE THING while I was gone. He certainly didn't sit on his butt all day, but come on! I have no idea what he is sawing/routing/drilling right now in the garage but whatever it is better make me able to see in the pantry!
A few weeks ago I got a whole 20 minute update on an oozing wound on her butt that may or may not have been caused by an ant bite.
I'm not trying to be insensitive.. but this made me think of Harmony's mom... and wonder how she's doing with the spider bite and infection and such... Update?
She's ok. She had the surgery and has had home health care daily since she got home. She was in the hospital for 6 days! As of now, she is looking at 2 more weeks of home health care.
She battles depression pretty hard and being at home/daily home health/recovering/not being able to do much is wearing her down. She is NOT pleasant when fighting (or rather succumbing to) depression. I am NOT looking forward to the holidays.
that's great news that she's recovering! but i hear ya on dealing with someone with depression {hugs}
FKB - tori's story made me smile :-)
Thanks. I am not knocking depression or meaning to sound like "oh brother, that again - get over it". I battle it too and I know I am not pleasant when it is getting ugly, but in all honesty, hers makes mine look like child's play. I can remember one summer growing up when she did not get out of bed all summer except to use the bathroom/shower. It was rough.
i didn't read it that way at all. i was commiserating. it's extremely frustrating - you want to help but there's really nothing you can do to help.
I didn't read it that way either Harmony. I totally get it too, I think my mom has battled depression a lot of her life too, but she doesn't really acknowledge it. She has diabetes now and is not coping with the diet very well, expect the holidays are going to be hard for her. It makes me sad for her. So hugs to you and your mom.
Harmony,
I myself battle depression and I didn't think there was anything wrong with what you wrote. My own battle is really complex these days because being on bc has made my emotions go into a roller coaster-meets-spin-out. I'm super pissed one day and feeling dark and hide-in-a-hole another day. It's nuts. Yes, I'm changing BC prescriptions. I have never found one that doesn't put me into an emotional tailspin though, so it's rough because I have to take it to keep from bursting more ovarian cysts.
Anyway, your mom probably realizes she is no fun to be around when she is the way she is. And it's so hard to admit when one is struggling. It is depressing to say it out loud and you're already depressed as it is!
So Harmony I'll pray for your mom and keep her in my thoughts - if she can get it in check her holidays and yours will be so much better!

I took pics today of Addie to use for a christmas card. In 30 min I took 275 pictures. I came up with 9 card options. I don't know how you real photographers do it. Just looking at that many pictures and doing the tiny bit of editing I know how to do is time consuming. I can't imagine how much time it takes you to be satisfied when it's your true talent and job.
Is my child the only one that's never been TOTing? I don't see the point of taking him out- he doesn't eat candy, we don't eat candy.
We do get him a costume every year and attend Zoo Boo, parties or neighborhood events and this year he wore his costume to school. But he's never actually traveled the streets.

We didn't take Cooper TOTing last year and I don't intend to tonight. We do let him eat candy though so it's not that. I just don't feel like he "gets it" yet so I feel weird, like it's really ME TOTing and he's just my "cover".
Also our neighborhood isn't full of kids like the suburbs so we don't get a whole lot of TOTers. And, several of the neighbors that we're friends with who I would want to take him to their houses just to show him off in his cute costume, are Christian of the variety that don't really do Halloween for religious reasons, so I'd feel weird about that.
My big boy is bounding towards 3! Hoping to add a sibling.
Hipster dog is not impressed.

We're going out with friends. If we didn't, I would probably dress him up and just hand out candy.

After much internal debate I let rrr take her out last night, but only to the 4 or 5 houses on our street that had their lights on. Most of the ToT in our neighborhood is concentrated a few blocks up and over because few pass out candy in all the cul de sac streets--of which ours is one--that come off the main drag. I dumped out half of the little she got because it wouldn't be safe for her to eat. (gum, tootsie rolls). Personally I would have been ok skipping but she loves her costume so much and had a lot of fun. I'm hoping she'll forget about the candy in a day or two.
DH is working from home today. All of the sudden he got up and decided to start packing. Apparently that means I'm supposed to leap up and help him. Now he's quizzing me about what to do with everything he touches and getting mad when I give him an answer. We can keep (and move and store) the grill that we're not going to use until we move into a house in the spring, but keeping (and moving and storing) some of my melamine outdoor serving dishes is a huge deal.
I'm hoping to make it through the day without stabbing him.

This is what we do too. DH is outside cutting the lawn and edging so it will be nice for our "guests" tonight. LOL
It really bugs me that DH's siblings don't try to be in Addie's life at all. She doesn't really even know who they are. His sister just emailed me that their brother doesn't want to do presents this year (he never has, always says he's broke, we've bought him stuff in years past but stopped last year after we discussed it). Fine, but you know what? it wouldn't cost much to pick Addie up a puzzle at the dollar store and send it, they could even give it to their mom to bring her. Last year we were there in person and they didn't get her anything for her b day or christmas. I'm not saying they need to buy her stuff, but it would be a super easy (and cheap) way to remind her they think of her. Even a freaking postcard or something. they never ask about her or anything. Maybe it's just obvious because my siblings do inquire about her or think of her.

the key is to not shoot a jillion pics. that'll make the choice simpler! pick a design, then deep-edit only what you really want to actually use.

Is it weird that I'm annoyed by this?
Not at all. I'd be annoyed too.
I think annoyed and very sad. I was just talking to DH the other night about how awesome it is that my brother misses my son so much and talks about him like its his own... and I'm the same way with my brother's kids. We were/are very close with our aunts/uncles/cousins growing up... on both sides. I want that for my kids too.

Maddie has been ToTing since she was 10 months old. Of course then we went to like 5 houses or so. One of my favorite things about Halloween is being able to go and greet neighbors. Our first year I took M in the bike trailer over to Red Dahlia's house. Last night I was so tickled because they brought their sweet Bear and puppy over. It is so cute to see the babies in their costumes!!
Maddie also said, "My favorite thing about Halloween is dressing in costumes and being with friends and family." We have a BIG group that ToT's together (like 10-15 kids plus parents). The 7 who live in 4 consecutive houses including ours and then additional friends all make our rounds in the neighborhood together. Maddie LOVES it. I need to search through our albums and put together a mini book for her and her BFF showing their costumes through the years. I think I'll wait to print it until next year though - 5 years of ToTing together - awww.

We had lots of fun ToTing last night, but I am paying for it today. I am exhausted.
I let Joseph eat a few pieces of candy on the way to school this morning...sort of payback for them sending him home sugared up and with candy yesterday. Bwahahaha.

G just had an epic tantrum, complete with laying on the floor kicking and screaming, flailing around like a gator in a death roll. Because I wouldn't let him play with a kitchen knife.
