Probably flammable, but I want to ask anyways
Re: Probably flammable, but I want to ask anyways
"I think that ANYONE who decides to engage in a behavior that they KNOW offends someone else is being rude. Period. "
Would that include proselytizing? Because I find that to be pretty damned offensive, but it hasn't stopped one single Christian I know from continuing to do it. Which is precisely the reason why I mostly don't care if my frequent use of JFC or GFD-it offends a Christian. They offend me regularly by trying to legislate their faith onto everyone else, by their lack of respect for the faith of others, and by their undying need to convert everyone to their own faith. After so much lack of respect from the other side, you pretty much quit caring if you're offending them or not.
I don't think anyone has the right to not be offended, unless they are in their own home. Otherwise you have limited options: stay at home and never talk to anyone ever, put up with it, leave, or fight it...but you can never have a life where you wont get offended by things sometimes, not with all the many people, cultures and belief systems.
I try to never make personal attacks on here. But if I offend with some of my anti religious sentiments, its only the same as how I get offended by some of the pro religion sentiments. Welcome to the world, some people wont agree with you, and will say so, and you just kinda have to suck it up lol.
Anyway, can you imagine trying to make laws based on what offends people lol? Impossible.
As for taking the lords name in vain, I can see how it would offend someone, but then from my point of view "Blasphemy is a victimless crime".
What is your deal with her? Honest question.
Cheese 'n rice, people.
Are you serious? You really can't see?
She openly admits to wanting to tell people how to live. Several times in this post alone she's played the "you don't understand card" I'm not even getting into the rest of her history.
IIOY was here.
Figure what you want. My replies were based on what SHE said, like everyone else's.
Bottom line, not everyone is going to have the respect that you do for those words, obviously.
The 2012 I am Offended/not Offended Olympics! Welcome, welcome!
To what odd thing to get offended by do you refer? Being told how to live?
Yeah, taking offense to that is obvious evidence of a grudge.
" I don't believe you're one bit sorry that you've offended anyone."
Here you are...
This thread is so headache-inducing that it makes me want to say JFC more than I ever wanted to before. Oh, the irony.
(Wait, is this actually ironic or is it ironic in an Alanis Morrissette kind of way?)

<a href="http://www.thenest.com/?utm_source=ticker&utm_medium=HTML&utm_campaign=tickers" title="Home DTef, just an observation, but it seems just as odd that you've taken it upon yourself to choose this battle with SM&S.
I was being ironic (eta) in a silly, silly thread.
Oh OK. That's also obvious evidence of a personal grudge. Not that she continued to play the "you don't understand" after multiple people patiently explained that they do in fact understand but just disagree.
Ya got me. Congratulations.
I'm late to the party but I've just read every post on here. AW, I like how you flesh out your beliefs and really try to explain why it is you believe the things you do. I think it's great you have such deep-seeded faith and whatnot. Good for you
To your question: I do use JFC. I use GD. I use the F word, the C word, etc etc. I have a serious potty mouth. Also, I have no religion. I also agree with the other posters, in that it's different to say "GD" when you stub your toe on the edge of the bed frame at 4am, than when you use the N-word or the R-word to degrade an entire group of people. JC/GD is taking "the lord's" name in vain; and if you have no lord, it's just another curse. Sure I curb it at work, but then again, I don't go around dropping F bombs where I'm supposed to be acting professional, kwim?
Sure, it's offensive. Just like F*ck. Just like C*nt. But the fact of the matter is it's not directed at you. At the end of this game called life, you'll be the one laughing at me in "heaven" with your God and Jesus and whomever else is up there while I lay in a box underground being eaten by worms.
I think the bouncy house with a bunch of screaming children was less headache inducing than this thread.
JFC
Happy second birthday to my boys!
.... Are you watching Titanic in honor of the centennial anniversary of its maiden voyage?
Because I'm totally going to do that next week.

the only thing i'm taking away from this is now that it's been declared that ANYONE is offended by JFC (which i use on a nearly daily basis), i will AUTOMATICALLY be deemed as intentionally offending people because it's been pointed out to me that it offends them.
that and i was under the impression that JC died on Good Friday and rose from the dead on Easter. i must go inform all my religion professors that they are incorrect because my internet message board told me so.
I see three possibilities after reading this entire thread:
1) people disagreeing with AW actually DON'T understand
2) they do and they choose to keep doing things that offend her, which is kind of jerky
3) they do but they're p!ssed that she's telling them what to do because she's condescending, so they aren't going to do something nice for her, which is kind of petulant
4) they understand, but don't want to commit to changing anything about themselves for what is, in essence, something minor, which is kind of lazy, but understandable
I'm assuming you're somewhere around choice 3, but the vileness of your responses doesn't really seem to match up to AW's attitude in this thread. I think that's where people are confused about whether or not you have an outside vendetta against AW.

Many Christians say "He is Risen" as a greeting when they say "Happy Easter". Saying it on Good Friday doesn't mean one thinks He was Risen on this day, just like saying Merry Christmas throughout the month of December doesn't mean one thinks that they are celebrating the birth of Christ on that particular day.
ETA - "He is risen!" was also a common greeting throughout the church in history. People would usually follow it by "He is risen, indeed!" People say this throughout the year, even when it isn't Holy Week.
Dude, I felt that way during EpicFatGate.
I feel like this deserves a poll. The next time you use adamwife's lord's name in vain, are you being:
1) stupid
2) jerky
3) petulant
4) lazy
No special snowflake option because there couldn't possibly be any other reason.
Who "me?"
you need an All of the Above option. intentionally, of course.
