Do the Body Media or Body Bug things wake you up like the Jawbone did?  That's what I need the most help with.

The body bugg does not.  It just measures calorie expenditure.

The Body Media does, but it is an arm band and it is $250 + subscription.

I am really bummed the UP turned out to be a lemon.  I hope the Apple store will refund us.

I had the news on the background, and they just did a segment about how great the Up was.  I'm bummed to hear it didn't work out.

I lied.  Body Media just tracks sleep, I don't think it has a silent alarm.

I may have to block my teacher friends from facebook this week...sorry teachers, but it is sooooo annoying to see every 3rd status update (DH is a teacher and we have a lot of teacher friends) being about how excited they are for a whole week off, or the daily countdown to a week off, or anything related to how much they need a whole week off.  So do the rest of us, yet we don't get a whole week off (less than a month before Christmas break on top of it), so please just shut it!

Yup,  One of DH's cousins is a teacher.  Yesterday she told me "People talk about how many days teachers get off, but I haven't had a day off since Labor Day!".  Ummmm, yeah me neither.  :::Crickets:::

but they work so hard.  Indifferent

i don't take A DAY off this time of year.  like, i work every single day, weekends included.  it's my choice and i'm happy with it.  i'm spreading joy, dammit.  i'm working my ass off to capture other people's little moments and i effing love it.  literally sunrise to sunset some days...lol.

Yes to all the above comments

I'm with you.  I work in education and don't get the week off(or Labor Day, really) and even if I did, I wouldn't post about my "much needed break."

Teachers do work hard, but I also think some have a difficult time seeing the forest for the trees.  Everyone works hard and most of them don't get summers off.

  • Why can I not learn to just say NO?

I'm committed to making turkey, dressing and bread pudding for a department Thanksgiving lunch this Thursday.  Five dozen cupcakes for a birthday party next Tuesday night.  And a german chocolate cake for a coworker next Wednesday.

I'll be living in my kitchen if anyone needs me.

  • I AM SO LIVID.

My SIL (the one I don't like) grandfather died. We (my family, my BIL that lives with me and my MIL) decided instead of sending flowers we would send a cookie bouquet for the family to snack on. When my grandma died we had so many flowers we didn't know what to do with them and we really appreciated the snacks that people sent.

So my BIL who's GFIL passed away called over the weekend and said they didn't want cookies, they wanted fruit or flowers. Um ok. Well that's what we're sending. He just called again today and wanted to know how much to chip in and to add their name to the card. Um no. I think it's weird that her grandfather is the one that passed away and she's chipping in on a cookie bouquet from her IL's.

I got this: http://jawbone.com/up yesterday and I am loving it.

Did you use the silent alarm feature?  That is possibly the most appealing thing I have ever heard!  Waking up is rough.

Yes.  I used it this morning.  The band starts vibrating.  I set it to wake me before 5:30 and it started vibrating at 5:13.  Honestly, when I woke up, I didn't feel the "holy crap already" that I normally feel, so I am loving this feature on Day 1, but I did realize that I didn't have to get up that early since DH was taking the kids this morning, so I slept for another hour.  I think I will set it for 6 tomorrow and see how I feel when it starts to go off.

In the review, I have seen some people say the activity calibration is off, but for me, it still gets me moving.  I could sit at my desk for hours without budging, so at the reminder to get me up and moving has helped.  I've added about 500 steps this morning that I wouldn't have normally logged.

To anyone who considered getting it after all my LOVE for it...yeah...fail.  It died on Friday.  I checked the Jawbone forums and there are pages and pages of posts with people complaining that theirs crapped out as well.  We are returning it today.  I will save my $ for the Body Media gadget...not as conspicuous as a bracelet, but at least they work, right?

I have a BodyBugg that you can use if you want to invest in the cost of the online program.  I loved it.

Is it one size fits all?  How much is the online program?  I am definitely interested.  Do you want to sell it?

I have the medium and large arm bands.

I'm not sure how much the online program is initially.  I had an Apex account from when I had a trainer at 24 hour fitness since it's the same online program they use for you to track.  I just called them to reactivate it.  It was $10 a month I think.  The internet has anywhere from $99 to $149.  I would call BodyBugg customer service to see.  They are super nice and helpful.

As far as selling it.  Honestly, you can buy a brand new one for $149 right now and it comes with a 6 month subscription.  I could not in good faith sell it to someone who had to pay almost that just for the online program.

  • My dad's mom passed away yesterday. She spent her 70+ years on earth as a mean, spiteful, bitter, awful "mommy dearest" who treated our branch of the family like second-class citizens. 33 years and I cannot come up with one single favorable memory of her, or at least one that doesn't make my blood boil "that much." How sad is that?

    Yes

  • It appears the IT guy deleted an entire set of files from my boss' computer, I think he thought he was deleting an extra link to them and somehow deleted the actual files.  It seems that they were stored on her computer or maybe even her desktop and not on the shared drives (which they shouldn't have been).  Thankfully they were not book-related files but still, I feel really bad for her, I think she's going to cry.
My big boy is bounding towards 3! Hoping to add a sibling. image Hipster dog is not impressed.
  • just added this to my christmas list for shyts and giggles. maybe if i charge for rides, it would justify the crazy price tag.
